A guide to finding care · Chicago, Illinois

Who will make and send the medicine?

The service that arranges a visit may have a different name from the pharmacy. Ask for both. Keep the pharmacy’s full name with the product details, so there is something concrete to check.

The assumption

The name on the care website tells me who makes the medicine.

What the answer rests on

FDA, the Food and Drug Administration, says people getting compounded drugs online may not know who prepared them. Compounded means prepared to order. Ask the service to name the pharmacy.

The pharmacy’s Illinois licence

Use the name to check permission

Illinois’s Department of Financial and Professional Regulation is known as IDFPR. As of September 2026, its free public search includes pharmacies and pharmacists.

As of September 2026, a pharmacy outside Illinois must have an Illinois nonresident licence to ship prescription drugs to Illinois residents.

Nonresident means based outside Illinois. Ask for the Illinois record as well as the pharmacy’s home-state record. Start through the state agency’s licence page; ask IDFPR about a record you cannot find.

The short version

Details to keep together

Ask for

Use it to check

The pharmacy’s full name

That the name matches the pharmacy on the label.

Illinois licence details

The pharmacy’s permission to serve an Illinois patient.

A way to reach a pharmacist

Who can answer questions about the actual product.

The medicine’s name, plus its form: tablet or injection

That the visit, prescription, and delivered product agree.

Reading a pharmacy’s credentials

A registration or badge has limits

FDA registration puts a business’s details on record with the federal drug agency. As of September 2026, registration with FDA gives no approval to either the business or the medicines it supplies. A government drug code does not prove approval either.

Ask for the licence and any inspection findings, rather than relying on a registration badge.

A drug code is an identifying number in a government directory. It is not a review of how well the medicine works.

FDA’s online pharmacy checklist says to look for a valid prescription, a state licence, and a licensed pharmacist who can answer questions.

A pharmacy licence shows the state has given the pharmacy permission to operate. It does not guarantee that the pharmacy prepares and supplies every prescription correctly.

Keep the conversation going if the product details change. Ask who can explain the change and how to reach them after delivery.

Confirm permission to send it

What is the pharmacy’s full name, and how do I check its Illinois permission?
